The transition to our partnership with Carolina Malt is underway.

Going forward, all orders will be fulfilled and shipped by, and billed from, Carolina Malt so this is required for all new and existing M&R customers to ensure we have your contact info, shipping requirements, and billing preferences up-to-date. We appreciate your time doing this, and for your patience with us through this transition.
Is Murphy & Rude open for business?
Yes! Things were dramatic there for a bit, but we are proud to join forces with the team at Carolina Malt as a partner in our next chapter. Our roasting equipment has been relocated to their state-of-the-art facility in Cleveland, North Carolina, from where all of our malts will now be manufactured, fulfilled, and shipped. We are actively fulfilling orders so get in touch!!
Can I still buy all the same M&R malts?
Just about. We did consolidate a few overlapping products between the two of us to reduce confusion and better manage production timelines. Carolina's Pale and Vienna malts will replace ours, as well as their Munich Light (in place of Munich 9) and Munich Dark (in place of Munich 15). M&R's Virginia Pils and English Pale will remain available and are produced to our strict technical parameters to ensure flavor and performance consistency.
M&R's five Crystal malts (15, 40, 60, 80, 150), and eight dry-roasted malts are produced on M&R's drum roaster using M&R's recipes. They are now offered alongside Carolina Malt's variety of base and high-kilned malt selections to form a diverse portfolio of 32 total products.
Is M&R malt still made with Virginia grain?
You can expect the same high-quality grain sourcing they are accustomed to, including access to products made with VA-grown grain. We will continue to contract directly with Virginia growers, and assess grain quality across the Commonwealth's annual grain harvests, That said, M&R products may also be made from NC-grown grain from time to time. As part of the partnership, M&R and Carolina Malt are combining their respective grower networks, and that is a good thing! By doubling our collective grain sources, we can be even more discerning in our selection of acceptable grain lots in light of ever-changing growing conditions. M&R’s Virginia Pils will continue to be crafted with 100 percent Virginia-grown barley and VA-grown grain will be selected for all other M&R products first, to the extent a given harvest year allows. Carolina Malt's products will be produced with predominantly NC-grown grain.
The 2026 restock of Virginia Pils is imminent as we await grain quality results. Stay tuned for official release dates as the first batches of 2026 Virginia grain arrive in North Carolina.
How can I place an order?
Once you've filled out our onboarding form, consider your account established (or re-established) and ready for orders. Email your order to orders@murphyrudemalting.com and we will respond with a formal Sales Order as acknowledgement and confirmation that it is in the system for fulfillment. A rep from Carolina Malt will confirm any freight quotes prior to shipping and provide tracking so you can keep an eye on your delivery ETA. Once shipped, invoices will come from Carolina Malt, not M&R.

Can I still pickup my order?
We have officially moved out of our production facility in Charlottesville but if you are close to Carolina Malt's facility in Cleveland, NC, you are more than welcome to pickup your order there.
What about the GrainStore?
The GrainStore will be closed while we find a new home for it during this transition. Rest assured homebrewers, we are looking and will communicate any updates as soon as we have them. If you are in the Charlottesville area and have an idea for a perfect location, let us know!!
Can I also order Carolina Malt?
You sure can. Products from each brand are accessible under our newly consolidated Product List and can be combined on single orders. The product list identifies the brand of each malt so there is no confusion around whose is whose.
So did Carolina Malt acquire M&R? Was this a sale? A merger? WTF!
This was not a sale, acquisition, or corporate merger. Rather, we have forged a strategic partnership that combines operations while keeping Carolina Malt and Murphy & Rude Malting separate companies and brands. By combining operations, M&R's malt production, order fulfillment, shipping, and invoicing simply move under one roof - Carolina Malt's roof - while preserving our respective brands.
OK, but Why?
This partnership benefits everyone involved. M&R benefits from Carolina Malt's exponentially higher production scale (a nagging problem for M&R that has been difficult to solve) while Carolina Malt benefits from M&R's diversified product list and specialty malt production equipment and expertise. M&R customers benefit from significantly reduced malt prices by way of increased batch scale, as well as reduced out-of-stocks and/or backordering. Both customer bases benefit from a one-stop-shop brewing/distilling ingredient supplier by way of access to both of our products lists in a single order.
